Snowshoeing in the woods is a great way to experience the quiet, see signs of wildlife, and get exercise during winter. There are two ways to enjoy Sugarbush woods on snowshoes: either self-guided access to designated terrain or guided tours on the Gate House trail and into Slide Brook Wildlife Management Area.

Self-guided Tours

Explore marked trails at both Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen.

Lincoln Peak: Gate House Snowshoe Trail, Warren House Trail, & Village Woods Trail
Mount Ellen: Lockwood Loop Trail

Sugarbush Self-Guided Snowshoe Trail Maps are also available at Guest Services, the Ski & Ride School, Lodging, and Rental Shops.

Dates/Times: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily (conditions permitting). Snow boots required. Layered clothing and day pack recommended.

Snowshoe Rental Rates: $35/pair per day at our rental shops in The Farmhouse building at Lincoln Peak and downstairs in the Mt. Ellen Base Lodge. Advanced reservations required. Please call the Rental Shop at 802.583.6504 to reserve.

Guided Snowshoe Tours

Embark on a captivating journey through the woods alongside one of our knowledgeable Guides who will provide valuable insights about the natural features and inhabitants of the area. This territory is home to various wildlife such as black bears, moose, deer, coyotes, bobcats, fishers, ermines, owls, turkeys, and woodpeckers. While actual sightings of these creatures are rare, participants will learn how to interpret tracks, observe scarred trees, identify nipped branches, and recognize the sounds of the forest. The tours will take place either in the woods surrounding Gate House or in the Slide Brook basin, depending on the prevailing conditions of the day.

Guided Fireworks Snowshoe Tours

Join us for a festive celebration and witness a spectacular fireworks show from the top of Gate House! Embark on a snowshoe excursion to the summit of Gate House Quad and indulge in hot chocolate at the Patrol Shack or on the deck while enjoying the fireworks. This tour will depart from The Farmhouse, travel to the Gate House Quad summit, and then return to The Farmhouse. Please note that a moderate level of fitness is necessary for uphill travel. No pets please.
