Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in the woods is a great way to experience the quiet, see signs of wildlife, and get exercise during winter. There are two ways to enjoy Sugarbush woods on snowshoes: either self-guided access to designated terrain or guided tours on the Gate House trail and into Slide Brook Wildlife Management Area. Guided tours must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. 

Self-guided Tours

Explore marked trails at both Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen.

Lincoln Peak: Gate House Snowshoe Trail, Warren House Trail, & Village Woods Trail
Mount Ellen: Lockwood Loop Trail

Sugarbush Self-Guided Snowshoe Trail Maps are available at Guest Services, the Ski & Ride School, Lodging, and Rental Shops.

Dates/Times: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily (conditions permitting). Snow boots required. Layered clothing and daypack recommended.

Snowshoe Rental Rates: $35/pair per day at our rental shops in The Farmhouse building at Lincoln Peak, and downstairs in the Mt Ellen base lodge. Advanced reservations required.   Please call the rental shop at 802.583.6504 to reserve.

Guided Gate House Loop Tours

Explore the Gate House woods with one of our Outback Guides giving you insights on the area's natural features and  inhabitants.  Territory of black bear, moose, deer, coyote, bobcat, fisher, ermine, owl, turkey, & woodpecker. Though actual critter sightings are rare, trekkers will learn to interpret tracks, scarred trees, nipped branches, and to recognize the sounds in the forest.

  • Duration: 1 - 1.5 Hours
  • Meet at the The Farmhouse Building at Lincoln Peak
  • Please arrive early if renting equipment
  • Ages 9+
  • Under 18 yrs requires release signed by parent/guardian
  • Snow boots required. Layered clothing and day pack recommended.
  • Conditions permitting
  • Additional dates may be available with 48 hours notice and a minimum of 3 participants.

Dates/Times: 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM on non-holiday Fridays, and 1:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and daily during holidays. Tours start Sunday, December 26, 2021 through Sunday, March 27, 2022. Holiday periods are: Dec 26, 2021 - Jan 2, 2022, Jan 15-17, 2022 and Feb 19-27, 2022.

Rates: Includes guide and one lift ride up Gate House.

Tour Package (with rentals): $79
Tour Only (no rentals): $64

Guided Slide Brook Snowshoe Tours

Our Outback Guide leads your snowshoe adventure into the Slide Brook wilderness, territory of black bear, moose, deer, coyote, bobcat, fisher, ermine, owl, turkey, & woodpecker. Tours through the basin are physically warming and mentally stimulating as natural features found in passing give clues to the lives of Slide Brook’s inhabitants. Though actual critter sightings are rare, trekkers will learn to interpret tracks, scarred trees, nipped branches, and to recognize the sounds in the forest.

  • Duration: 2.5-3 hrs
  • Meet at the The Farmhouse Building at Lincoln Peak
  • Please arrive early if renting equipment
  • Ages 9+
  • Under 18 yrs requires release signed by parent/guardian
  • Snow boots required. Layered clothing and day pack recommended
  • Conditions permitting.
  • Additional dates may be available with 48 hours notice and a minimum of 3 participants.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AND AGREEMENT

All participants must confirm on each day(s) that the student is enrolled in a Sugarbush Winter Program Activity that:1) The student will not have been in close contact with a person that has tested positive for COVID 19 within the 14 days prior to; 2) The student will not come to the Resort if they have any of the following COVID 19 health symptoms: fever of 100.4F or greater, coughing, shortness of breath, chills, fatigue, muscle pain or body aches, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Sugarbush is following all state guidelines and recommendations for COVID protocols. These may be subject to change during the course of the season.
