Sugarbush Mountaineering Race

Sun, Mar 20

Due to current conditions this event has been postponed to 2017.

Course Description

The race starts at the Valley House Lodge at Lincoln Peak, heading up Racer's Edge>Lower Snowball>Snowball>Valley House Traverse to the first transition at Allyn's Lodge. This is intermediate climbing on groomed trails.
From Allyn's Lodge, racers will enter the woods on a narrow mountain bike trail, Grand Stand, which traverses across several ski trails, ending on Ripcord, where a short descent takes competitors to the bottom of the Bailout trail and the second transition area. The course climbs Bailout to the Lower Castlerock Run intersection, where it turns downhill until crossing under the Castlerock Liftline and starts climbing again on the gentle Castlerock Connection trail.
From the end of Castlerock Connection, racers climb the bottom of Morning Star, then up the climber's right side of the intermediate Birch Run trail to the top of the North Lynx lift. At the top of the North Lynx lift, competitors begin a narrow descending traverse through the woods into the Slide Brook Basin. After crossing under the Slide Brook chair line, the course descends on the main intermediate Slide Brook access trails to the Grand Junction bridge.
The course mainly climbs from Grand Junction to the intersection with the Lower FIS trail at Mt. Ellen. Pro competitors turn uphill and climb the expert Lower FIS trail to Southbound to the Glen House, then descend the expert Tumbler trail to Crackerjack to the Sunshine Double area, traversing to the Graduation trail, descending to the bottom of Sunshine Double and finishing on a short uphill near the bottom of the GMX lift.
From the Lower FIS intersection, amateur competitors will descend to the bottom of the Sunshine Double lift and finish on a short uphill near the bottom of the GMX lift.
