Sugarbush Resort Golf Club superintendent earns GCSAA Class-A status


SUGARBUSH, VT.  (May 17, 2011) – Michael Wing, golf course superintendent at Sugarbush Resort Golf Club in Warren, Vt., recently was awarded Class-A membership status with the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (

Wing has been the golf course superintendent at Sugarbush since 2007.  He joined Sugarbush as their Snow Surfaces Manager in 2005, overseeing grooming and snowmaking.

“Michael is continually focused on creating the best possible experience for our members and guests, and by earning his Class-A status, he’ll be able to do more than ever before to improve the Sugarbush experience,” said R.J. Austin, Sugarbush Director of Golf.

Wing is a resident of the Mad River Valley.   He lives in Warren with his wife Diane, and children Zakary (age 10) and Morgan (age 8).

GCSAA Class-A status is the preferred membership class of the association, and is the gold standard for superintendents in the golf course management profession.  GCSAA members are known worldwide for their focus on overall facility success, and their deep understanding of what constitutes an enjoyable experience for golfers of all ages.

GCSAA Class-A membership is awarded only to current golf course superintendents who have met specific requirements in formal education and environmental stewardship. 

The formal education requirement includes a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education and at least three years of experience as a golf course superintendent. 

The environmental stewardship requirement includes passing the GCSAA Integrated Pest Management examination, or working to earn a similar pesticide application license that meets the GCSAA standard.
