Sugarbush Resort Announces New Management Changes

Warren, VT (October 8, 2014) – Sugarbush Resort has announced changes to its management structure leading into the winter season.

Kevin Babic, an 18-year veteran of the resort,  has been promoted to the role of Chief Administrative Officer. Babic’s ascension is part of a transition plan addressing the impending departure of long-time resort employee Hardy Merrill, who is moving south to be closer to family. Babic, formerly the VP of Finance for Sugarbush, began his career at the resort in 1996.

Dave Ulbrich, former Lift Operations and Trails Manager, has been promoted to Mountain Manager, where he will lead, administer, and coordinate the winter guest experience at Mt. Ellen at Sugarbush. Ulbrich will have direct supervision of lift operations, trail maintenance, terrain park, and all aspects of summer operations. He will also serve as chief liaison with the Green Mountain Valley School, which  bases its winter training program at Mt. Ellen. Ulbrich has been with the resort since 2004.

Derek Pedley has been promoted to Director of Resort Facilities. Pedley joined the resort last year as Base Area Facilities Manager, coming from the Vermont National Country Club in South Burlington where he had served as Facilities Manager and Assistant Golf Course Superintendant. Pedley’s new position will include the maintenance of over 600,000 square feet of building space including all lodging properties, the Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club, off-mountain capital improvement projects, and vendor relations.

Scott Tuttle has joined the resort as Lift Maintenance Manager. Tuttle arrives with 17 years of lift maintenance experience at several resorts including Park City, Deer Valley, Gunstock, and Moonlight Basin. He brings with him vast electrical maintenance experience that covers DC motors, drives, and PLCs. He has also been published in Ski Area Management.

“It is always exciting to be able to promote employees from within, and I am happy to watch the careers of Kevin, Dave, and Derek grow. It is also beneficial for us to invite in talent from other areas, and I welcome the addition of Scott to our team,” says Win Smith, President of Sugarbush. “And of course, I will miss Hardy Merrill, who has devoted so much to the resort over the years. I do think change provides opportunity, and I look forward to a great winter ahead.”
