Sugarbush Resort and the Flyin’ Ryan Hawks Foundation announce partnership, host special event
Warren, VT January 3, 2012 –Sugarbush Resort has teamed up with the non-profit Flyin’ Ryan Hawks Foundation to help raise awareness for the mission of the Foundation. The Foundation is holding an educational program and ceremony for scholarship recipients at Sugarbush’s Valley House Lodge this Saturday, January 7th.
Created following the death of Ryan Hawks--who died from injuries sustained during a Subaru Freeskiing World Tour event in Kirkwood, CA--the Foundation offers scholarships to adventurers who represent the principles for which Hawks was known. Hawks started his skiing career in the seasonal programs at Sugarbush, and is remembered as one of the most hardworking and humble athletes to have come through the program.
After Hawks’ death, his father Peter Hawks-- a Sugarbush coach and Outback Guide--discovered Ryan’s 13 core principles on his laptop computer. These principles have become the centerpiece of the non-profit’s mission. “The mission is to inspire young people to never stop exploring life, to expose them to the world of outdoor adventure and to Ryan’s humanity through his core principles,” said Peter Hawks. “I believe these principles have the power to change people’s lives and thereby make this world a better place…one person at a time.”
