Warren, VT (April 18, 2017) – Sugarbush Resort is hosting the 3rd annual Stein’s Challenge this Saturday, April 22nd. The competition takes place from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Stein’s Run, with the goal to ski or ride as many laps on the trail as possible in four hours. Competitors can ride the Valley House Quad to top of the trail, with Sugarbush providing a dedicated singles line for those competing.

Online registration is available for the event, as well as day-of registration, for $20. Registration day-of will be in the Castlerock Pub from 8:00 – 9:00 AM and cash only. Prizes include gear from Icelantic Skis, Never Summer Snowboards, Vapur and Goode. Awards will be given out in the Lincoln Peak Courtyard at 3:00 PM.

Spectators can also get in on the fun with an après scene at the base of Stein’s Run including a pizza oven and bar camped out on the mountain for the competition.

Both the event and trail are named after legendary alpine skier and Olympian, Stein Eriksen, who passed away last winter in his of Park City, Utah. Eriksen was the Ski School Director at Sugarbush Resort in the 1960s. It was Eriksen who wanted to cut a trail where Stein’s Run is now, an unorthodox idea at the time given the fall line and pitch of the terrain. During his tenure, Eriksen was known for demonstrating graceful backflips while skiing down the mountain on Sunday afternoons—combining the skills of a gymnast and a world-class skier.
