Where did all the lunch places go?

I've been a resident of the Valley for the last 30 years. In my early days here there seemed to be a number of sit down full service restaurants; JJ's Pub, The Den, Beggars Banquet, DW Pearls, some place that Mike Flanagan ran on Bridge Street, poolside at the Sports Center and Knickers at the golf course. Lunch hasn't disappeared, I eat it most every day, so what gives? Lunch is now served at every convenience store up and down Route 100. Some of it is really quite good and prices are attractive. The downside is no dining room; eat standing up, share a picnic table or in your car. Life coach tip: never eat standing up or in your car. Enjoy the moment; share a meal with people you care about.
Let me shamelessly plug two places on the mountain that still offer a nice lunch experience, Hogan's Pub at the golf course and Castlerock Pub at Lincoln Peak. Both have quick, fresh and healthful lunch options as well as spectacular surroundings courtesy of Vermont's Green Mountains. I dare you to find a better view than Hogan's Pub for food and drink (outside of hiking).
You'll find the same great staff from the winter season. Margo and Emily relocate from the Wunderbar to Hogan's, Shawn and girls still hold court at Castlerock and Gary from Mt. Ellen is also back at his summer home on the golf course. Hogan's serves seven days a week, Castlerock opens for the season on June 25th when we open fully for mountain activities. Take a look at the new Hogan's menu with favorites like the Roast Turkey Club, Hummus Veggie Wrap, and Black & Bleu Steak Salad.
Our next big culinary event is the Brew-Grass Festival, which has already sold out. I mention it because even if you didn't grab a ticket, you can still join the fun at the Brew-Grass Kick-off Party on Friday, June 10th. Shawn and I are pretty excited because Lawson's will be filling two casks with totally unique brews that you won't find elsewhere. At the very least you'll have some bragging rights to your friends who are always trying to find Lawson's beer. We'll also have my pizza oven out and a cornhole tournament.
Oh and did I mention the party is free to attend? See you there.
