Things That Grow Together Go Together

Mother Nature is pretty clever. She has an uncanny knack for having the natural world blossom at just the right time. Or maybe we humans are the smart ones, plucking things at just the right time. I’m good either way.
Let’s look at some of the wonderful seasonal pairings that grow together: In early summer, we get rhubarb and strawberries. Chanterelles and tarragon begin to arrive around July 4th. Blueberries and basil are the high point of any August CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) worth a hoot. My point being, you don’t need to look far for inspiration.
Grow together, go together. Sounds like good life advice, as well. There are so many opportunities to learn and grow in the Mad River Valley. Friends of mine, new grandparents to boot, showed up at the Vermont Mountain Bike Festival this year ready to learn. After Grandma M dropped through a rough little rocky section, one of the millennials who was on our ride said that, when she was their age, she “hoped she would be that cool. Check that, I hope I’m that cool now!” High praise. It’s really inspiring to step out of our comfort zone and learn something new.
If you want to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, allow me to suggest a few cool things going on here:
Women’s Discovery Mountain Bike Clinics with pro biker Ali Zimmer on Wednesdays, through the end of August (free); Ladies Night Clinic at the Golf Club on Thursdays at 5:15 PM; and for the ladies AND the gents, how about Birdies and Slices at the Golf Club on Saturday afternoons?
All of these can and should be followed up with a meal. Come on up to the mountain for some of our seasonal specials.
