Billz for Skillz Freestyle Event Finals

Billz for Skillz Finals

On Saturday March 14th the best skiers and riders from our event series descended on the big park to showcase their talents.

The warm sunny weather and the prospect of walking away from Mt. Ellen with some cash in their pockets, pushed the riding level beyond anything we had seen up to that point.

Some highlights : Berkley Stone dropping his new signature lawn dart front flip, Late entry Jon Murphy slaying the Vert wall, Ryan Del'amico attempt at a double back flip, John Lyke and Chris Fredette just getting silly on the rail features, Sky Gale shadowing Ben Sullo on his runs and quite possibly putting together the best runs of them all, to bad he was working parkstaff that day.

Billz 4 Skillz Event III Recap - 02/21/09

The third installment of the Billz for Skillz series started with a little challenge from mother nature. The lower section of the Big Park was closed on Friday to prepare for the event. When the staff rolled in on Saturday to set up we stumbled upon 16 inches of fresh and a buried course. Thinking that no one would show up to a comp on a powder day the Parkstaff proceeded to shovel and rake the features just in case.

Talent Skate Session - 01/24/09

On Saturday January 24th the Sugarbush Parks! Crew hosted a two hour free skate session at Talent Skatepark in South Burlington. We were not sure what to expect for a turn out but either way the crew was pumped to skate and ready to destroy said park. The turn out was huge with local skate talent, members of the Sugarbush Freestyle team and random others looking to get their skate on. Mountain Dew Am Force team members Jordan Maxham and Chris" cookie" Colbourn showed up along with a special guest appearance by the Hale brothers, Colin and Cody. After the skate session The Parks! Crew threw a raffle including lift tickets and headphones from Skullcandy. Thanks to everyone who showed up, Curtis Savard for his ridiculous photography skills, and to our gracious hosts Hannah and Dave @ Talent skatepark. There may be a session 2 in the making so stay tuned...

Billz 4 Skillz Event II Recap - 01/23/09

Billz for Skillz Freestyle Event IIOur second Billz for Skillz event was held on our advanced terrain park at Mt. Ellen and it was off the wall, literally. With about fifty competitors competing for product and a chance to get invited to the big show in March, the spectators were witnesses to a wealth of talent. The riders were judged on five lines starting with a down rail section into a jump rhythm section, step down to channel gap to step up, finishing their runs on the 15' Vans vert wall.

The girls had solid runs but it was Sugarbush Freestyle Coach Ashley Pare who walked away with $1200 worth of product from Vans, Electric and Rome. Anna Lienau also placed second with two solid runs.

Our Skier division as usual was difficult to judge, the group was throwing down for sure, ultimately Cam Doane, Sugarbush freestyle team member Cole Derrick, and Sugarbush Park local Kieran McVeigh walked away with the top prizes from Skullcandy and EESA.

The Grom Division was highlighted by three Sugarbush Parks Heavy weights, Tyler McCullough, Hayes Ward, and first place went to Sugarbush Freestyle team member Zach Harmon, who's smooth 360's left the judges and crowd begging for more.

Sugarbush Parks local Parker Fothergill was rewarded for his strong consistent lines top to bottom with a first place finish followed by Alex Kelley's ridiculous runs. Late entry and Sugarbush lift attendant Zach Cavanaugh front to backside rodeo flipped his way into third place.

The Sugarbush Parks crew capped off the event with a gnarly product toss and round of high fives for the masses, all in all the event was a success and we look forward to the third event at Mt. Ellen on 2/21/09.

Recap - 12/29/08

Sugarbush ParksAs you probably already know the weather has been pretty wild this past week. Feet of snow to feet of snow loss. It hasn't been easy for the Park Krew or anyone that works at the mountain for that matter. On Friday we set a lap park in on Lower Crackerjack for the holiday weekend. The park consists of two C-boxs, into a flat box, down bar, Spine back hip, into a 24' box set on an angle into a bank of snow. The Park has been jokingly called Little Reno and were working our way over to Hollywood known to most as Riemergasse. The poor weather exposed our first comp set-up leaving the rails essentially sitting on dirt. They have since been removed. and we are unsure of their future. The rail yard was a mess after the heavy winds and the guys have been trying to get that straightened up. Please bear with us, the Krew really wants to bring the heat but we have our hands tied at the moment. Later this week we will be updating the Sugartube with a new video. Remember, you can film and upload a video on our website too! We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday vacation and expect to see you back here soon.

Billz 4 Skillz Event One Recap - 12/12/08

More Photos (scroll down to December 13 photos)

Dropping in on the 1st Billz 4 Skillz event wasn't for the timid. The Park Krew built a setup 3 jibs wide into wall-ride right at the base of Lincoln Peak. The hollywood layout was quite the attraction on Sugarbush's 50th birthday. Spectators lined the orange boundary fence displaying the park sponsor's and boosting the vibe. Sugarbush park pro boarder Yale Cousino was on hand to help stoke the contestants and to inspire some quality riding.

Even though this was a rail contest, it didn't stop the riders from finding a way into the air. Backside airs, lofty spine transfers, hand plants and a few attempted flips were the highlights on the wall-ride. Tricks were hammered on the rails as well. Spinning on and off, pressing and of course the huge method gap over the kink box kept the crowds attention. There are still 2 qualifying events left before the big show. Plenty of prizes still remain and of course the CASH in the finals.

The next event will be held at Mt.Ellen on 1/17/09. The Park Krew has got your back and will be creating another awesome layout.

SugarBush Terrain Parks would like to thank the 40+ riders for coming out. And of course our Sponsors Vans, Electric, Rome, Skullcandy, Eesa, Rockstar, and Pure Snowboard Shop.
