DAVID BABIC: MEDIA

Sugarbush native David Babic (BAA-bik) set his sites on Olympic gold after watching on TV the 1994 Games in Lillehammer. When Canada’s Jean-Luc Brassard collected a gold medal in Moguls competition Babic said, “‘You can get a medal for doing that?’ I was blown away.” The next day he shifted his athletic focus from basketball to bump skiing and the path lead him to spot on the U.S. Freestyle Team.

Since winning a NorAm title and making the Team in 2002, Babic has created his own space among a powerful American squad. In ’03, he grabbed a World Cup podium, made some history and showed he belonged on the Tour. He solidified his place with his first World Cup moguls win in 2004. Babic continued to push his athleticism last season performing (and nailing) the first ever off-axis 1080 degree spin in World Cup competition during finals in Naeba, Japan. In addition to skiing, Babic is the co-author of the much-anticipated book, ‘New School’. With the help of a German National team athlete, they have combined their knowledge of skiing and jumping to build an informative guide for learning tricks ranging from basic 360-degrees spins through the more complicated 720 D Spin.

When Babic isn’t competing around the world, he can be found on the slopes of Sugarbush.
