Soar high above the Mad Rider Valley for some excellent views in a glider plane

Sugarbush Soaring

See the Mad River Valley the way the birds do—from the air and without an engine. You’ll take off from the Sugarbush Airport in East Warren in a sleek sailplane piloted by an experienced glider pilot. Like the hawks that wheel above, your pilot will search for the thermals to gain aerodynamic lift while you take in Vermont’s most beautiful landscape. If you’ve ever wanted to feel the wind beneath your wings, this is the way to do it. How long does it last? It's hard to say.

At 7,500 feet over Sugarbush, the view from a sailplane is magnificent. To the east is Mount Washington in New Hampshire and to the west, beyond Lake Champlain, are New York's Adirondacks. But getting to 7,500 feet without the aid of an engine makes for the challenge that drives sailplane pilots to fly.
