Summer Fun Seven Days a Week

06/15/2010

Warren, VT (June 15, 2010)- Sugarbush will kick-off Lincoln Peak’s summer season on Friday, June 25th with Free Kids’ Day. The resort began offering lift-served mountain biking, disc golf and zip line rides back in 2007, but this summer marks the first time they will be offering mountain adventures seven days a week.

'We knew that Sugarbush needed to have year-round appeal if it was going to thrive, and that was the motivation for restoring and expanding summer programming three years ago,' said Sugarbush’s president Win Smith. 'Since then, the demand for our mountain activities has grown, wedding business has soared, and we’ve added more summer offerings, so it makes sense to spin (Super) Bravo seven days a week. Lincoln Peak has become a vibrant hub of summer activity.'

During the 90s, the resort offered lift-served mountain biking to the public and was a regular stop on the National Off-Road Biking Association’s race series. Sugarbush’s Wicked Witch of the East, one of the most popular cross-country trails in New England, actually served as the course for several NORBA Regional championships. Towards the end of the decade however, ridership began to wane as mountain bikers shifted their focus from riding mountain work roads to purpose-built trails (read: trails designed by mountain bikers for mountain biking), something that was in short supply at Sugarbush.

Sugarbush retooled and reopened its extensive network of mountain bike trails in 2007, as well as created new routes down Lincoln Peak. The resort also opened an 800-foot zip line and two disc golf courses. Nearly two miles of additional mountain biking terrain will be phased into use this summer, bringing to 20 the total number of miles of mountain biking offered at Sugarbush.

The 3rd Annual Free Kids’ Day will feature lift-served mountain biking and disc golf; mountain bike, tennis and golf clinics with resort pros; bike inspections by Sugarbush rental techs; zip line rides (two rides per person); and swimming, rock climbing and the Bounce House at the Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club. Activities are free of charge to children 17 and younger. The fun gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 25th. Visit sugarbush.com for times, location and registration information.
