McGladrey Champs Come to Sugarbush

Warren, VT (July 7, 2009)- Sugarbush Resort will hold a McGladrey Team Championship qualifier this weekend. Sugarbush is one of only three venues in the state to host such an event. The McGladrey Team Championship, the first nationwide grassroots best-ball amateur championship conducted by The PGA of America, holds qualifying events around the country with winners going on to Section Championships. If a team wins their Section Championship, they advance to the National Championships held at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. Last year’s Sugarbush team missed going to the National Championship by just one stroke during a two-team playoff.

This weekend’s tournament is open to teams of three. Each team must have a Sugarbush GHIN member. Teams that advance to the Section Championship at the Turner Hill Golf Club in Ipswich, MA will be partnered with Sugarbush pro and 2006 PGA Professional Champion Ron Philo, Jr.

The winners’ purse open to pros at the Section Championships will be between $13,000 and $30,000. The National Championship at Pinehurst has a $200,000 purse and includes play on the No. 2 course, host to the US Open and one of the club’s premier layouts.
