Warren, VT (April 1, 2010)

Sugarbush Resort announced today that it will continue its sweeping revitalization of the Lincoln Peak base area. The Lincoln Peak Village project, started in 2005, involves several phases of improvements. Phase 1, which included the slopeside Clay Brook Residences, Timbers Restaurant, and the Gate House Lodge, was completed in December of 2006.

Phase 2 will consist of a new entrance plaza as well as two new lodges. One lodge will house some of Sugarbush’s popular children’s programs. The resort’s winter Micro, Mini and Sugar Bear programs as well as some summer camps will be located in this facility. The other lodge will provide skier services such as tickets and season passes, guest lockers, adult Ski & Ride, rentals and repairs, public restrooms, and a café.

Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in mid-April with completion expected in November.

“We’re excited to begin this next chapter in Sugarbush’s history,” said resort owner and president Win Smith. “We knew from the start that we needed to take a measured and deliberate approach with each stage, and the timing is ideal for Phase 2. After a successful winter, we feel confident about proceeding at this time. We are also delighted to be able to create jobs which will benefit the local economy.”

While credit markets remain tight, Sugarbush has spent the last several years accumulating funds through Vermont’s EB-5 visa program. This federally sponsored program allows individuals from outside the country to invest in projects which either save or create jobs in the United States, in exchange for permanent residency status. The state spent years working to have Vermont designated a regional EB-5 center so that businesses would have access to capital in order to grow the local economy.

“(United States) Senator Patrick Leahy, Governor Jim Douglas, and Secretary of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development Kevin Dorn have been instrumental in helping us raise these funds,” said Smith. “I cannot say enough about their tremendous support.”

The children’s adventure center will be approximately 12,500 square feet, while the skier services building will be 14,500 square feet. The entrance plaza surrounding these facilities will provide an aesthetically pleasing approach to the resort throughout the year and will allow for easier access to the slopes from the parking lot.

Pizzagalli Construction Company has been awarded the contract to build the project. They were also the contractor for Phase 1.

Construction Update: August 26th, 2010

Children’s Building
Work on the roof and getting the building water tight is progressing well this week. All of the plywood and ice and water shield will be installed within the next few days. The plumber continues his work on the interior and now has men working on both levels. The electrician has started running conduits (right on schedule) for the fire alarm system on level 1. Once the ice and water shield is installed on the roof they will be able to start running wires.

Adult Building
Walls are going up on level 2 today and we anticipate setting trusses by this time next week. Ninety eight percent of the interior walls on level one are framed and wood nailers for items applied to the walls are being installed. The electrician has been busy setting permanent power gear (under a temporary roof) we anticipate having power to the building within the next few days.

Sitework
The foundations for the site stairs are coming are continuing. Four of the five sets will be complete this week. The site continues to take shape and come up to grade as the stock piles of fill material get smaller and smaller. We will start running the snow melt mains next week. Winter is coming!!
