Win's Word

We are One of Four Resorts Open in New England this Week

Monday, April 22, 2013

There is still some really good skiing and riding here at Sugarbush, and we will be open all week hoping that those of you who are on spring vacation here in Vermont will come up for some turns. Sugarbush will be one of four resorts open in New England this week.

Last weekend both Lili and I had some great runs. On Saturday, Stein's was the pick of the day and a few non-stop top-to-bottom runs reminded us why we love this trail in spring. The moguls were well-shaped and soft. Even though it never really warmed up, you could work up a good sweat. Sunday started really cold, with temperatures at the base in the mid-twenties and teens at the summit. But the sun was shining and the sky was clear, so by early afternoon the snow was softening up nicely. While April sunshine is beginning to take its toll on many trails, we still have some excellent cover on the upper mountain. And Snowball, Spring Fling and Stein's are likely to make it to May.

Business takes me out of town for several days, unfortunately, so my final ski day of the season will be this Saturday. The long-range forecast is looking like it might be a classic spring day and I am looking forward to it.

Saturday will be my last ski day because next week I head out again, this time to the annual National Ski Areas Association convention in California, but for the rest of you it might not be the last since we are still planning to re-open May 4 and 5 for a festive Kentucky Derby/Cinco de Mayo weekend. I will be watching the weather carefully. If Sunday looks sunny and mountain conditions are still skiable, we will have a final BBQ with a band. If Saturday looks like the better of the two days, however, we might have our finale then as The Run for the Roses commences at Churchill Downs. Stay tuned. We will make the call midweek.

I hope to see some of you this Saturday.

PS. Although I am still in winter mode, I am beginning to think about golf season. Check out our new golf Four Pack. This $249 value gives you four rounds of golf with cart anytime this season. It can be used by you or shared with family or friends. But remember, the golf Four Pack is only available for sale during the month of April.
