I hate The Weather Channel! They love to focus on disasters and scare people into staying inside.
This past weekend was a case in point. Sure, it was cold. But with proper dress, Saturday and Sunday turned out to be fun days on the slopes. 4,000 people experienced that on Saturday and 2,000 did on Sunday. The rest of you missed our great conditions. Both days saw plenty of sun and light winds. In fact, on Saturday it felt a lot warmer at the summits than at the base. The key to days like this is to put on extra layers and try to have no exposed skin and remember to take a pause in the lodge for a few moments after two or three runs.
Today, Monday, will be the coldest day of the week and of the winter so far. It was -20 degrees this morning with some wind up high, so it is not a morning to rush out. We have decided not to run the summit lifts today because of the cold. However, the cold will be moderating tonight and we will be warming up throughout the week.
We are also looking at some light snow over the next few days, and we have our eye on a new storm that will be coming up the East Coast. It is too early to tell if this one will stay east enough to give us a big dump. We are certainly due for one, and it is going to happen eventually. Our trails are in great shape and the woods are beginning to ski better, but it is still important to keep alert and be cautious of obstacles below the surface.
I know that many of you have visited our new Sunrise Cafe. If you haven't, I would highly recommend the panini and the cappuccino. Also check out our new General Store on the northeast corner of Clay Brook. In addition to some grocery supplies, beer and wine, and candy and ice cream for the kids, we have some wonderful local arts, crafts, photos and jewelry. Becky, our store manager, is eager to meet everyone and to show you around. We are also converting the space next to the store into two massage rooms, one of which will be available for couples massages, and they will be ready in a couple of weeks.
I invite you to visit our new Clay Brook real estate offices in The Farmhouse, too, or stop by our Open House daily in Unit 122 at Clay Brook.
Hope to see everyone out this weekend. Spread the word -- the skiing and riding is great!
