Last weekend was not the greatest skiing and riding we have had this season. After it warmed up on Saturday, some nice turns could be had, but Sunday was a damp and dreary day. The snow was soft, and if you had good rain gear you could have some fun. Pond skimming on Saturday was its usual fun, and I am only sorry that we had to cut it off at 100 participants. I know more wanted to skim the pond. My grandchildren ages 6 and 8 dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 and convinced me to be "The Cat in the Hat" and go before them. My two sons made big splashes as Hulk Mania and the Son of God. With the soft snow, we all got wet but had a lot of fun.
The events at ME were also great and culminated with a torchlight parade down Inverness and another marvelous fireworks show. We are re-opening Mount Ellen for a final weekend and then turning our attention to Lincoln Peak for the balance of the season. Our parks crew will be moving a lot of features over and getting up a new park on Racer's Edge. They promise not to disappoint.
Spring did finally come this week and we moved to spring lift hours. Tuesday was an epic spring day with temperatures in the 40s, a strong sun and bluebird skies. Days like these get better and better as the month progresses. Thursday and Friday have featured some classic, sunny spring skiing, but there is a question mark for Saturday. We could see some showers and maybe even some snow. Whatever happens, I think it will be worth being here, and Sunday looks even better.
