When I was a student at Deerfield Academy, then Headmaster Frank Boyden would say to us this time of year, "Look to the hills!" He wanted to make sure that each of us made time in our busy schedules to appreciate the beauty of the Pocumtuck Valley. I have never forgotten those words and now, of course, I have the opportunity to look to the Green Mountains every day.
While every season is unique and special, there is no question that foliage is the most beautiful time of year up here. We are getting close to peak and the reds, oranges, and yellows are really shining under the bright blue skies. Nights are cooling but the days have been slightly warmer than normal this week. It is always difficult to predict exactly when peak will occur in the mountains, but it will likely be sometime between today and end of Columbus Day Weekend.
Speaking of Columbus Day, I hope it is on your calendar so that you can plan to enjoy all the fun activities we have planned here at Sugarbush. SHaRC renovations should be completed by then as well as the wonderful new upgrades we have made to the Valley House. I hope that you will get a chance to see what we have done. There is also a new interior on the Lincoln Limo. And we have new groomers as well as additional new snowmaking towers. Our paving project will not quite be completed by then, but you will still get a good idea of how much better the roads will look in a few weeks. Since we are replacing a large culvert at Rice Brook on Village Road, there will be a short detour from Sugarbush Access Road to the Sugarbush Village homes and condominiums that will go through the former Miguel's Restaurant property and up SHaRC's access road to Village Road. However, the entrance to the base area parking lot and the Sugarbush Village parking lot (that provides access to the village through the covered walkway) will remain open.
So come up and look to the mountains!
