The past week brought a number of very nice surprises to the Mad River Valley, as we saw many consecutive days of snow and wonderful snowmaking temperatures. Then on Saturday night and into Sunday, we had fifteen inches of lovely white stuff.
By 9:30 AM, cars were streaming up the Access Road and we ended up parking guests for the shuttle at The Sugarbush Inn. This turnout was double what we have ever seen on this particular weekend in December. The skiing and riding was terrific and only continued to improve this past week. On Friday, we opened Mt. Ellen for the season. As usual, there was a good group waiting for the GMX lift to begin spinning at 9:00 and it was noteworthy to see all of Inverness fully covered with snow and our magnificent terrain park on Reimergasse completely open. Neither the trails nor the park have been in such great shape this early in the season. Many of the natural trails were skiing and riding well, too, but they were still a bit thin and will need more natural snow to hold up.
Unfortunately, we had some funky weather over the weekend, with warmer air and rain. In order to preserve the natural trails as much best as possible, we are now skiing and riding only on the trails where we have made snow. That will help make certain that the natural trails hold up and can be skied again when cold weather and snow return later this week.
You may have noticed that the Heaven's Gate chair is not running. We had a bearing case wear out and it damaged a portion of the motor so it had to be shipped to New Hampshire for repair. We expect to have Heaven's Gate spinning by late Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest and apologize for the inconvenience.
Over the holidays this year, we have a tremendous number of fun events for all members of the family. And I am also doing a book signing on December 30th at 5:30 PM in The Schoolhouse.
I am happy to report that ten of the homes at Rice Brook have been turned over to their new owners. We will be having open house tours for the remaining five units during the holidays. If you have an interest, please contact our real estate team of Wendy Brauer at 802-583-6892 or Kyle Neyer at 802-583-6896.
Now we need everyone to do a snow dance. With the excellent base we have, some natural snow will bring back superb conditions for the holiday weeks ahead.
Lili and I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you on the slopes and/or at some of our fun events.
