Community Day is this weekend. While we might have reached peak foliage last weekend, this week is looking like a great week to be in The Mad River Valley. Sun is currently in the forecast with temperatures in the 50's during the day. The nights are getting colder and we have had some frost, and this is getting everyone excited about the forthcoming winter.
We have a full and fun schedule of activities for the weekend, and we are expecting a full Valley. So if you are coming and thinking of dining out, I would recommend making reservations ahead of time.
When you arrive you will be able to see the great progress we have made on The Schoolhouse and The Farmhouse buildings. Construction will be going on so you won't be able to get inside the buildings, but we are hoping that we can open the new entry walkway to allow you to come up to the Gate House that way. I can't guarantee that now, but if we make sufficient progress this week we are hoping to have the path open on Saturday morning for a brief period.
Last weekend the son of a very good friend was married here at Sugarbush. The afternoon ceremony was held just below the seventh tee on the golf course. After the nearly five inches of rain we had last Thursday and Friday, we were a bit nervous about the condition of the golf course. However, it dried out remarkably well. The course had a lot of play during the weekend, and the setting for the wedding ceremony was really wonderful. The hills were colored orange, yellow and red and the sun was shining as everyone gathered for the 4:00 PM wedding. Afterwards, we moved back to Timbers for the reception. It was the first Sugarbush wedding on the golf course where I was actually an invited guest, and I could not have been more impressed with our team. The food and service were excellent and both the ceremony and the reception settings were terrific.
Thank you to all of you who have already purchased your season passes for the upcoming season. We are well ahead of last year's record sales, as are our seasonal ski and ride programs. For those of you who do not ski or ride enough days to justify a season pass, our SugarDirect Card is now available. For only $99 you get one free day ticket, direct-to-lift access, discounts of up to 25% on day tickets, as well as other Resort benefits.
If Mother Nature cooperates, we are planning to open Saturday, November 20th. For Thanksgiving weekend we will have a Thanksgiving Dinner at Timbers and then on Saturday, November 27th we will have a very special and fun "Murder at Mascara Mountain II " dinner. The evening will begin with cocktails in Timbers, followed by a sit-down dinner in the Gate House. Entertainment throughout the evening will be provided by Piero Bonamico's Mad River Chorale. The first "Murder" evening we had in the Spring of 2008 was great fun, and this one promises to be as well. The details of the evening will be out shortly and reservations will be required.
I hope to see all of you this weekend.
