My thanks to all who came to the mountain last weekend. We had the busiest MLK holiday ever, and I hope everyone had a great time. Over the weekend, many of our guests stopped me to say what a great job our mountain team did in getting the slopes back in good shape. Although our natural trails and the woods still need more snow, on trails where we have made snow it has really paid off and set us up for the remaining two-thirds of the season.
It is cold this week, but the sun has been out and there is hardly any wind. With the right equipment, skiing and riding has been very pleasant. I have been out each morning this week for a few runs and continue to be impressed with the conditions. We have made a lot more snow on a number of trails and our groomers continue to do a fine job.
This Saturday it looks like it will be warming up and we have snow in the forecast for Friday evening into Saturday, so I predict that this will be a very nice weekend to be here. The 10th Mountain Division will be holding its Eastern Winter Gathering and, in addition to other activities, they will be holding a Memorial Service at 10 AM on Sunday at Mt. Ellen and at 1 PM their Jared C. Monti Memorial Race on Inverness.
With respect to our Slide Brook lift, here is an update. It is scheduled to run every day that Mt. Ellen is open. However, we need enough snow to allow safe access by snowmobile for our lift-maintenance staff and to get people out safely in the unlikely event of a lift evacuation. Also for safety, we do not run this lift if the temperature is below 5 degrees or if winds are too high. Hopefully, we will have a snowfall soon so that we can get Slide Brook up and running daily.
We have a bunch of good bands playing this weekend for apres and evenings and our Wine Dinner in Timbers will feature wines from the West Coast of the US. I highly recommend this.
On a personal note, Lili, I, and Maggie are hosting an engagement party for our son Win and his fiancee, Shell. We are really happy for this great couple. And we will have all five of our grandchildren here together at Sugarbush for the first time. Three of them are enjoying the Blazers already and we are hoping to get our youngest granddaughter on skis for the first time this weekend. She is so excited that she brought her new snow suit into the bedroom this morning to show it to me.
See you on the mountain,
