While we've had snow basically every week since before Halloween, we've had more warm than cold too. According to the forecasters though, the pattern we experienced through November and early December has changed. We had snow last night, there is a chance for more through Saturday and again early next week, coupled with an extended period of good snowmaking temps. Winterlude appears to be over.
The People's Rail Jam was awesome last weekend!
The snowguns have been blowing all the way into the base area today, plus we've been working at Mount Ellen. Things tend to happen very quickly this time of year. By next weekend, we plan (hope and pray) to be top-to-bottom at Lincoln Peak, plus additional freestyle features, Gate House beginner terrain, and open Mount Ellen.
Guess who is in town for Sugarbash weekend? Sigi and Claudia!
When I first started working at Sugarbush, Sigi still ran Sigi Sports and Claudia was a new coach from Austria. Almost twenty years later, their smiles and love of skiing are still the same. So is Sigi's turtleneck! "There is something very special about this place. With the variety of terrain, the authentic atmosphere, and the caring community, Sugarbush is the best ski area in the East." Sigi Grottendorfer.
Another famous historic Sugarbush figure is holding court at the mountain this weekend too. Charlie Brown has been working hard all fall to produce his new movie, Irene in the Mad River Valley. Charlie had an advance showing in Timber's this week and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. There were also wide grins to balance the tears, as the movie is primarily inspirational.
Coach Andy getting ready for Adventure Blazers, which starts Saturday!
The weekend weather looks ideal for some mountain recreation and it's the perfect time to blow the cobwebs out of mind and body. If it's your first time back on the boards this season, take it slow and make lots of turns to get back in the groove. Be sure to check out Valley Ski Week, Dec 12-16th too. It's the best way to tune up for the rest of your winter.
Nice Line at the People's Rail Jam.
Despite the warm weather, the turns have been really good.
Another beautiful Mount Ellen sunset.
The guns are blowing, the air is cold, the mountain is freshly covered and the Sugarbush party schedule is heating up. Come get your winter on!
