Parallel Turns - Sugarbush Stoke Exchange

Thursday, July 24, 2014

During the heat wave this past week, we were definitely thinking of the cold comfort of winter. With snow on our fevered brains, pretty soon we were knee deep in powder daydreams. Now that cooler temps have returned, our heads have cleared a bit, although the feeling of floating with gravity lingers.

Riding boards and riding bikes are direct parallels.

That's because mountain biking is so much like skiing and riding that it can be a powder day even in July. Full suspension bikes provide bottomless turns and jumps, regardless of the current lack of snow.

The smiles are the same, too.

Between Adventure Camps and our awesome coaching clinics, we can have you quickly up to speed. Imagine year-round turns and how big your grins will be. Everything you learn about biking translates right back to winter fun, so you can always be improving your skiing and riding

Hmmm, even Olympic skiers seem to know. Thanks, Nolan!

Golf, tennis and skiing also have many similarities.
Golf and tennis also have many similarities with skiing.

Golf involves picking lines through tough terrain and the arc of a swing is very reminiscient of the arc of a board. If you walk, the course becomes a true training ground.

Tennis requires strong athletic movements, good eye-foot-hand coordination and swinging a racquet also resembles the round moves of making turns. These activities provide chances to reconnect with skiing and riding all summer.

We've got two excellent days ahead, while the weekend may be less sunny, with a chance for some rain on Sunday. We could use a little rain though, to keep things green and the chanterelles popping. Better be here!
