From mighty cold to a nice powder day to another January thaw, and now a refreeze, Sugarbush has experienced quite a wild weather week. The difference between our coldest and warmest recent readings is 80 degrees.
We had two flood warnings, one because of the cold and the other for warmth. The temperature dropped 9 degrees in 20 minutes this morning and it is still moving fast. The meteorological pendulum is just whipping between extremes.
Morning glory.
The thaw definitely impacted natural snow terrain, which will likely affect the status of two big events this weekend, the Junior Castlerock Challenge and the Sugarbush-Mad River Glen Randonnee Race.
Nice powder on Tuesday.
The Junior Castlerock Challenge has been moved to Stein's, which is a very respectable stand-in course. The Randonnee Race course will be evaluated over the next couple of days. We've run it with muddy sections in Slide Brook before, so it will probably still happen too. Check the events calendar at sugarbush.com for updates.
We do have an important weather-proof weekend event that should interest Sugarbush hopheads. Guess who is going to be the first ski area in the world to serve the #1 rated beer on BeerAdvocate.com?

It got good in the woods again.
From the 57th floor in NYC to a SB bumpline, without missing a beat.
That's an easy one. Of course, it is Sugarbush. And yes, the beer is none other than The Alchemist's Heady Topper. Be sure to join us in the Castlerock Pub for a very special Meet the Brewer night on Saturday. Regular weekly deliveries of Heady Topper will start February 15th.
This may be a bold statement, but given our research, we believe that Sugarbush has the best beer selection at any ski area on the East Coast. Now those are some tasty liquid assets.

Hopefully, we are settling into a smoother and snowier pattern for February and March. We still have a decent base in place and are ready for some big powder days. Snowdances, growing crazy mustaches, sacrificing skis, or sending Egan to Florida, we are prepared to do whatever we need to help this come to fruition.

A little fun in the new Schoolhouse playground park.

The cold has returned and we've got several chances for snow in the forecast. It's going to be a great weekend of fun at Sugarbush. We hope to see you soon!

Nice job John Atkinson! I love the Stoke Exchange and your pictures and video, many of my friends do too, I know several people who won't hit the mountain without getting your report.
