Deep Spring - Sugarbush Stoke Exchange

Thursday, April 24, 2014

While picture perfect spring days have been very prevalent lately, cooler than normal temps, especially at night, have kept the snow pack notably deeper than normal. We finally lost our last natural snow trails this week, but the homemade base is still going strong.

Top-to-bottom turns are a lock for the weekend, with more than 20 trails and a melange of groomed and bumped terrain for intermediates and experts. Stein's is likely to get groomed on Friday night and Sugarbush Parks continues their daily refresh of fun freestyle features in the Racer's Edge Park.

As the final days of the season are close at hand, it is easy to get the changeover blues or quit coming to the mountain, because other pursuits start to compete for attention. We understand, we're in the same boat.

The Sugarbush Golf Club is set to open May 3rd. Trailwork is well-underway in the Valley on the Mad River Riders' trails. Spring cleaning tasks are piling up and after a long cold winter, you might have a semi-reasonable excuse for not skiing and riding again this year.

Before you think we condone this type of behavior, let's be clear, we don't. Think back to November, when you were desperate for some snow and turns. You ran up here at the drop of a hat to hit the trails for first runs. The terrain was limited and the snow was firm.

Here it is in late April, we've got tons of soft snow, great sunshine and a variety of terrain, and you're ready to quit? Now is the time to seize the last bits of winter and cherish them, there will be plenty of space for the other stuff soon.

Sugarbush's Johnny Egan recently earned 8th Place at the World Championships of the Junior Freeride Tour. Here is his first run. Congrats, buddy!

Friday looks like the best day of the next three, but there should be fun turns and fast friends to share them with all weekend. We may even get some snow Saturday night. Ready for more?

Get it now.
