A big thank you to all of you who voted in this year’s Ski Magazine Survey. We are very proud to have been voted #2 in the East. Our team here at Sugarbush has worked hard to earn your trust and confidence, and this recognition motivates all of us to try even harder to provide you with lifelong adventure and camaraderie. We are also really excited that our friend and neighbor, Mad River Glen, was ranked #6. This is great for the Valley. Congratulations also to our Vermont neighbor, Smuggler’s Notch, who ranked #1. I have great admiration for Bill Stritzler and his team at Smuggs. It is noteworthy that two of the last independently-owned large resorts ended up number one and two in the survey, and that a privately-owned cooperative ranked #6.
While the Ski Magazine survey is gratifying, we are not looking in the rear view mirror, but rather focused on the season ahead. Our pass sales have once again been strong, and at this point, are slightly ahead of last year, as are our seasonal program enrollments. Our two new lift replacements made major steps forward in the past week. The towers were installed on both lifts, as were the Village Quad’s drive terminal and upper lift shack. Similar progress is now occurring over at Mount Ellen. For those of you who like a nice hike, walk up to the top of Easy Rider or Reimergasse and see how the new lift looks.
We are hoping that our new groomers, which are being shipped overseas from Germany, will be here by Community Day for you to see. We also hope to have at least one of our new lift gates installed so that you can see how they will work. The new pass media has arrived so we will be able to print the new passes. And, speaking of Community Day, I hope that many of you will be able to get up for the long weekend as we have great activities occurring on Saturday and Sunday. I will give a brief presentation on Saturday morning, followed by a Q&A session for those interested. The colors right now are really starting to come out, and with the warm days ahead of us this week, I hope the foliage will be peaking right around Community Day weekend.
On Saturday of Community Weekend , we will be hosting an Open House at Gadd Brook Slopeside with some interesting give-aways from a number of our local partners. We have furnished two of the units, and they are really worth taking a look at. Gadd Brook is one of the last new opportunities at Lincoln Peak for ski-on/ski-off living.
We had our first job fair this week, and are now really focused on building our winter team. Please send along anyone you know who may like to work in the various positions we will be filling. Ski and ride, ski patrol, lift operations, housekeeping and food & beverage have the most opportunities. All open jobs are posted on our website.
As some of you may have heard, The Warren School had a major roof leak recently, leaving them unable to use their classrooms. The elementary school was relocated to Sugarbush for a couple of weeks. Our Schoolhouse turned into a real school, and we were delighted to be able to help our neighbors in a time of need. It was great to see so many little students at Sugarbush and we are looking forward to seeing many of them on the slopes this winter season.
