Title: Ski and Ride Instructor in Training - Intern
The Sugarbush Resort Instructor-In-Training (IIT) program is an un-paid academic internship designed to provide participants with the opportunity to develop the skills required to be a ski or ride instructor and hands-on experience applying those skills. Participants assist in a variety of programs and departments within the Ski & Ride School, giving them well-rounded knowledge of resort operations focusing technical skiing and riding, working with children, and teaching skills.
The program’s mission is to "homegrow" future Sugarbush instructors and community leaders. We have a dedicated IIT Coordinator who works with the interns, and the program is based in the Schoolhouse, our state-of-the-art children’s center. Each intern will get the time and attention that they need with seasoned Sugarbush instructors to build the knowledge and skills at the core of all successful snowsports instructors and in the wider world of teaching and coaching generally.
Interns are required to fulfill a 28-day commitment through the winter season and are evaluated on foundational and job specific skills, both mid-season and the conclusion of the program.
The internship is open to anyone age 14 to 18. If you are age 16 (by Nov 1st) or older and have completed one or more years of our internship program, you are eligible to apply for a job as an instructor. 16 to 18 year olds are not eligible to be hired as instructors unless they have completed at least one year of our internship or have prior ski/ride certification or instruction experience elsewhere.
All participants in our IIT program MUST be eligible and able to receive either high school or college credit in a qualifying work experience or physical education program for participation in this program.
